What Essential Oils Do I Recommend as a Certified Aromatherapist

It’s my most frequently asked question: where do I, as a professional aromatherapist, get my essential oils?
I understand why people ask this question. They want to be getting their essential oils from a source that will deliver on quality, purity, and potency. Perhaps they have been told that good essential oils only come from one or two companies, and they are accessing my opinion on that claim.
I recently wrote a blog talking about principles to look for when deciding whether or not to purchase from an essential oil company. If you check out these principles and apply them when you are shopping, you will be successful in sourcing great oils.
As an aromatherapist, I source from MANY different companies. Some of those are craft distillers with whom I have forged relationships. Some of those companies are those frequently used by professional aromatherapists. And some of those are companies whose mission and vision for education, sustainability, and fair trade resonate with my own values. At last count, I had essential oils from close to 30 different sources.
Most people don’t need to source from that many places. And I bet a lot of you just want some direct guidance about where to shop. Well, look no further, I am spilling the tea on the top companies I recommend for the home user. If you are wondering how to find reputable essential oil suppliers, these are all companies that align with the principles I spoke about in my last blog post and whose essential oils I have used for many years. These are all trusted essential oil companies for purity and quality and are also some of the best brands for essential oil enthusiasts. I believe you can trust these companies, and I know you will have an exceptional experience with their products.
Top brands for high-quality essential oils
1) Floracopeia, now acquired by Anima Munda Herbals
Man, I love this company. Founder, David Crow, is a world-class herbalist and aromatherapist with experience and training in all kinds of traditional medical systems like Ayurveda. Floracopeia holds sustainability and one of their highest values, and they put their money where their mouth is. They recently brought the first sustainably-produced Rosewood essential oil to the market and have eco-projects all over the world. I also appreciate them because they have lesser-known essential oils you won’t find a lot of places that have outstanding therapeutic benefits comparable to more well-known oils. You can’t go wrong with any of their products.
2) MOUNTAIN ROSE HERBS*
I have been a customer of Mountain Rose Herbs for close to 20 years now. I started sourcing from them after searching for the highest quality herbs and carrier oils for my soap making. Mountain Rose has herbalists and aromatherapists on staff who do a large amount of education for customers through blogs and journals. They have a high value of sustainability and fair trade. The best thing about MRH is that it gives folks like you who are interested in aromatherapy a chance to also develop a relationship with herbs at the same time. Partly founded by famous herbalist, Rosemary Gladstar, and having been stewarded by many other amazing masters of plant medicine over the years, Mountain Rose Herbs is a trusted source for all of your home herbal medicine needs. *
3) AROMATICS INTERNATIONAL
What’s better than a woman-owned company that is also founded by professional aromatherapists? Well, I don’t know. If you agree, check out Aromatics International. Founded by aromatherapists, Karen Williams, Andrea Butje, and Cindy Black, this company highly values transparency. In fact you can access chemical profile reports on many of their essential oils straight from their website. This, as well as their focus on solid education, are just two of the reasons why this company is trusted by so many professional aromatherapists.
4) LIVING LIBATIONS
Nadine Artemis is an expert aromatic formulator and goddess of the forest. Her Canadian-based company is all about bringing the juice back into your life through aromatic formulations. I adore her work on holistic dentistry. I also love her deodorant products, skincare, and dry brushes. Everything about this company inspires me to be more creative in my work as an aromatherapist. Even their product descriptions are pure poetry.
A screen capture of the Philosophy of Living Libations demonstrates not just their love for the planet and people, but also for word craft.
5) AROMATRU*
A new player to the field of aromatics is Aromatru, a sister company to AirDoctor. Normally I wouldn’t jump on board with a company that was new to the industry. However, in this case I have a personal connection. One of my recent teachers, Gabriel Mojay, a world reknown Clinical Aromatherapist and educator, was the one to source and develop this aromatherapy line for Aromatru.
This company also has created the first diffuser I think I might love. It can contain four different vials of essential oil, uses no water, and is programmable manually or via an app. You can create an aromatic protocol that follows you through you day, helping to elevate the skills and focus you may need at given times.
I have truly and honestly been blown away by the beauty and quality of the Aromatru essential oils. I have never smelled oils with such sparkle and personality. Plus, their essential oils are certified organic, meaning that they demonstrate a value in sustainability.

HONORABLE MENTION
Eden Botanicals and Stillpoint Aromatics. It’s hard for me to stop at just four or five companies. Here are two more I believe are worthy of your time and investment.
