raw cacao--you've never tasted chocolate like this
Sourced from the original strain of the Theobromo cacao tree
Many in the wellness space are familiar with the health benefits of raw cacao because of its nutrient density and antioxidants.
But let me tell you, if you have had cacao before, you haven't had THIS cacao.
Fly Kakao is a non-profit dedicated to re-establishing the native strains of the Theobromo cacao tree which were ripped out and nearly brought to extinction by the hybrid trees planted by the big chocolate companies.
Owner of Fly Kakao, Mackenzie, is the real deal, and she honors the true spirit of kakao and the native peoples who steward this resource. She goes into the jungles and works directly with the farmers who are growing and producing this incredible medicine.
Fly Kakao is unique in that it is rare, heirloom varieties that are whole bean and minimally processed and never diluted with lesser grades of cacao. The organization also takes great care to make sure that reciprocity & sustainability are taken into account when producing this elixir.
That's why I don't recommend any other cacao to my clients, customers, & followers.

Friends, to be honest, if I am going to indulge, I want it to be worth it.
When I started drinking ceremonial grade cacao over 8 years ago, I realized that most other chocolate I had consumed throughout my life was simply a shadow of itself and what could be.
My first experience with Fly Kakao was at one of their cacao ceremonies at an even in Nashville, TN. I didn't really know what to expect with this room full of strangers and a blender filled with dark brown liquid.
What happened together in that time was nothing short of amazing. Soul connections with strangers. Heart opening conversations. Emotional releases. Creative ideas bursting. Friendships cemented.
I was hooked for forever, especially when I learned that this was cacao that was sourced with sustainability in mind, that would never be over harvested, and that was harvested in reciprocity to the hands that produced it.
You do not have to add anything to the Fly Kakao you receive in order to enjoy it. Simply prepare as directed on the bag.
But, I like to dress mine up a little bit with some collagen for froth and some raw honey to deepen the mystical, sacred experience this food of the gods is.

Here's my honest takes.
This is my favorite cacao and the one I choose most days. It's got a fair amount of cocoa butter, making it creamy. It's fairly sweet with notes of floral. It's deeply satisfying to my chocolate cravings, and I love to enjoy it when I am creating on something deep & soulful for my community or apprentices.
This variety is a bit deeper and darker with earthier notes than the Cuncho. To me, it is reminiscent of traditional Mexican chocolate, and I love to add some spice to this one. This is a really rare variety, so be sure to savor it within intention & honor.
This is a cacao experience that may remind you a bit of your favorite coffee. It has those sour cherry notes and tannins you would expect in a coffee, but it also has the sweetness and creaminess you would expect from cacao.
And is this a culturally appropriate medicine for all?
Back when I first started drinking so-called "ceremonial grade" cacao, there was a big push back from some in the herbal & wellness communities that 1) cacao wasn't used for ceremonial purposes and 2) this was cultural appropriation.
What I have since learned from Mackenzie, owner of Fly Kakao, as she has worked with elders in indigenous communities is that when cacao first came to be seen as a ceremonial medicine, they were not yet ready to share this with the world. So, they said that it wasn't used that in way in order to protect it.
Now, years later, the stewards of this medicine are letting the cat out of the bag, so to speak, but letting us know that not only has cacao been used ceremonially for ages, but it is time for the spirit of cacao to be known more widely to those in the world that would respect & honor it. They are now choosing to share this medicine with us. Let us receive it with the care it deserves.
